Traumatic Brain Injury & Brain Trauma – What You Need To Know

Accidents come up no matter if we like it or not, and often it is the head that endures the most, resulting in brain trauma and traumatic brain injury, usually known as tbi. Injuries to the brain is never a good thing, and it is only lately that medical doctors have recognized how damaging to the head particular sports can be. For example, ice hockey can have in some dangerous hits to the head, leading to concussion, and other damage. Previously, it was a case of getting competitors back on the ice as soon as possible, but nowadays team members, coaches and trainers are more cautious. In the event there is any sign of concussion, blurred vision, severe headaches or other signs or symptoms, then the participants are placed on the injured list until they are totally recovered.

Brain injuries have to be taken very seriously. Regardless of the fact that the brain does have some defense from the skull, we are nowadays experiencing far more risky events that can harm the delicate brain.   So to protect ourselves from brain trauma, and traumatic brain injury, we need to do what we can to stop as many accidents as possible. This means taking precautions whenever possible, precautions like wearing a helmet when skate boarding, and when skiing. Considering the speed which downhill skiers achieve, it should be mandatory to wear a helmet. In fact there is a move now for the ski hills to bring in mandatory headgear so that fewer head injuries will be caused. It may not be the cool thing to wear, but it most definitely is the most sensible thing to wear a helmet when doing anything that could result in damage to your head and brain.

So, do your best to reduce brain trauma, and traumatic brain injury, by taking precautions when you can to protect your brain and head, and encourage others to do the same. Brain trauma is no fun, and it can ruin many lives. So do your part, encourage the wearing of helmets during skiing, bike riding, skate boarding etc, and see if we can get the number of cases of brain trauma and traumatic brain injury to go down.
